Pauline “Polly” Marie Kjer, 94, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 with her family by her side.
Polly was born on February 20, 1932 in Allen, NE to Everett and Iva (Allen) Carr, the seventh of nine children. She graduated from Allen High School and attended Wayne State College. In 1951, she married Bill Kjer. They had three children: Craig, Susan, and Joy. Tragically, Craig died at the age of thirteen from a tractor accident. Polly was primarily a homemaker, but she also worked various part time jobs and was active in local clubs and in the Allen United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member. Polly enjoyed cooking, gardening, garage sales, and caring for her family. Bill and Polly lived most of their working lives in Allen where Bill was an agent for the Burlington Northern Railroad and where they had many great friends and family members. They also lived in Norton, KS, Alliance, NE and Lincoln, NE. Bill passed away in 2016. Their last home together was in the Cotner Center Condos in Lincoln. For many years after retirement, they were snowbirds, spending winters in Arizona. They also enjoyed traveling to visit their daughters’ families across the USA and abroad. They loved being grandparents!
Surviving family members include daughters, Susan Hild and Joy Kjer (Lee Koch); granddaughers, Kjersten Hild, Marlene Hild, Isabelle Creveling (Christopher), and Aud Koch; her last surviving sibling, Loren Carr; sister-in-law Betty Carr, along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on March 27, 2026 in the Metcalf Funeral Chapel, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, NE 68503.
Memorials may be given to the family for a donation in Polly’s honor to the Eastview Cemetery in Allen.
