Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

 Obituary Post Date:

Maybrey JoAnn Bomberger

June 1, 1944 – May 15, 2025

Maybrey JoAnn Bomberger said goodbye to her life and her loved ones on May 15, 2025.  As we mourn and celebrate her life, friends will remember her passion for tennis, dance and synchronized swimming in her youth.  Coworkers at the UNL Health Center, where she worked as an administrative assistant for more than two decades, will recall stories of fun and friendship.  And her family will cherish her love for us all, especially her grandchildren, and her taste for peach cobbler, summertime watermelon, and all things fresh from a good farmer’s market.

The daughter of Maybrey I. (Vannoy) and James P. Hempel, she married Richard Bomberger in 1964 and had two children.  She is survived by her daughter, Eugena Bomberger of Lincoln, and her son Jeffrey Bomberger (Naomi) of Omaha; her brother Don Hempel, and her four grandchildren, Noah, Ellie, Maggie and Anna.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers and sisters-in-law James, Thomas, Donna and Judy Hempel.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Marks Methodist Church in Lincoln at 11am, Friday, May 30, 2025, in the sanctuary.  Memorials to family for future designation.
