John R. Weiss Sr., 68, passed away on September 28, 2026. He was born on January 24, 1958, in Syracuse, New York, and his Syracuse roots remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.
John lived in many places across the country before eventually settling in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was funny, smart, and loving, with a curious mind and a sharp sense of humor. Above all, he was a father who took great pride in his four sons, John R. Weiss Jr., Samuel Weiss, Luke Weiss, and Jack Weiss.
John was the former owner of JRW Sales, Inc., a business he built through determination and hard work. Building and running his own company was one of his significant accomplishments.
A lifelong sports fan, John loved Syracuse basketball and football and was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. He enjoyed playing pool, bowling, chess, video games, and board games, as well as spending time fishing. He especially enjoyed trivia and got great satisfaction from putting his knowledge to the test and winning. John also loved classic rock music and movies, especially the old classics, and could often be found enjoying a favorite film.
He is survived by his sons, John R. Weiss Jr., Samuel Weiss, Luke Weiss, and Jack Weiss; his sisters, Karen Weiss and Mary Lynn (Mike) Knupp; his brother, James (Teresa) Weiss; his sister-in-law, Penny Weiss; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary (Basic) Weiss; his brother, William Weiss; his brother-in-law, Fred Mackenzie and his niece, Angela.
John will be remembered for his intelligence, loving nature, quick wit, and above all, his love for his sons and the life he built.
