John L. Torpy, 88, passed away on October 7, 2018. He was born January 15, 1930 on a farm near Tabor, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Imogene, Iowa, and served his country in the Korean War. During his military service he learned to be a cartographer, an expert in making maps from aerial photographs. After stops in various states including Michigan and California, he took those skills to Lincoln, where he worked as a map maker for the state of Nebraska.John and his late wife, Lois J. Torpy, were longtime members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. John belonged to the Knights of Columbus and with his wife spent many years helping others in service organizations including Calix and the Matt Talbot Kitchen.Memorial service: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 1420 K Street, Lincoln, Ne.
