James Sundren David

James Sundren David, 55, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on July 26, 2026. He was born on December 10, 1970, in Hammond, IN to Rev. John and Shakuntala (Mann) David. He spent one

semester studying abroad at Oxford University and attained a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Master of Arts in Religion from Lancaster Theological Seminary and a Master of Science from Creighton University.

James was ordained in 2007 and ministered at St. Paul’s UCC Church. He faithfully served the community by starting the “F” Street Farmer’s Market and Trunk-or-Treat (Halloween being one of his favorite holidays). St. Paul’s UCC Church is now the F Street Church and continues many of the projects James started.

He enjoyed traveling and being with people from around the world. Some of his favorite trips were to England, India, the Holy Land, and Micronesia where his passion for community grew.

James perpetually studied economics hoping to find solutions as he continued to advocate for the underserved, even as his health failed him.

James found pleasure in listening to music from all genres; some of his favorites were hard rock, metal, and reggae. He also loved watching movies, especially those with a good story line and strong cinematography, and loved discussing movies with incredible insight. His other passions included fencing, painting, reading, and cooking.

James is survived by his children, Steve (Emily) David, Ethan David, and their mother, (Seema), all of Lincoln, NE; his siblings, Mona (Frank) Starman, of Williamsburg, VA, Asnath “Ozzie” (Paul) Downes, of Rolesville, NC, Sherry (John) Weber, of Lincoln, NE, and John (Heather) David, of Woodbridge, VA; 10 nieces and nephews; and extended family covering the globe.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shakuntala and John David, and other family members.
