Donna Janell Johnson (Stone), 88, of Lincoln, Nebraska, (formerly Eau Claire, Wisconsin) passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2024.
Janell was the daughter of the late Carl and Alice (Pederson) Stone. She was born on May 31, 1936, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She attended Cranberry Creek country school near Rock Falls, Wisconsin and was a 1954 graduate of Durand High School. After graduating high school, she attended vocational school for a short time before being employed at Roberts Wholesale Grocer.
She married Merle Johnson of Mondovi, Wisconsin on July 21, 1956 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. Merle and Janell had 5 children and lived in the Eau Claire area most of their lives.
Janell enjoyed working at her church, organizing luncheons for funerals and weddings and teaching crafts for Vacation Bible School. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have fond memories of baking and decorating cookies with her every Christmas.
She worked as a prep cook at Heckel’s Restaurant for 15 years, as a housekeeper at the Clairemont Nursing Home for 13 years, and as Resident Manager of River Plaza Apartments in downtown Eau Claire until she retired in 2007.
Janell is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Bernie) Brunner of Riverside, California, Tamara (Victor) Dahlman of Bennet, Nebraska, son Daniel Johnson of Franklin, Wisconsin, son-in-law Patrick Sturz of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and daughter-in-law Avis Johnson of Henderson, Nevada, eight grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters: Brenda Johnson and Kimberly Sturz, granddaughter Allison Sturz, brother Gene Pederson, and sister Judy Weissinger.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at Chippewa Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church, 919 Tenth St. West, Altoona, Wisconsin. A luncheon will follow the service at River Prairie Center, 1445 Front Porch Pl., Altoona, Wisconsin.
