May 15, 1943 – February 15, 2025
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved father, David Jack Sherwood, on February 15, 2025. Known affectionately as David, Dave, Jack, or Jacko, he was born to Rachel and Kenneth Sherwood on May 15, 1943, in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he lived for 81 years.
David fell in love with Stephanie Ann Manulak at the Runza Drive-In where they both worked. At the ages of 19 and 16, the teenage sweethearts married. Over the course of their 57-year marriage, they welcomed three wonderful children: Constance, David, and Brenda.
David supported his family by working at Gooch’s (ADM) Feed Mill. He also served as a Fuller Brush representative and was a volunteer firefighter with the Southwest Fire Department. Later, he returned to his childhood home in the countryside to follow his passion for farming.
David was a devoted Catholic who served as a Knight of Columbus and participated in an hour of adoration each week. He and Stephanie actively volunteered with a church program called Foodnet, which provided food to those in need. To further support their mission, David dedicated part of their land to growing fresh vegetables. His dedication and obedience to God reflected a heart truly committed to faith until the end of his life.
David had a heart of gold. He was the kind of person who would stop to help someone stranded on the side of the road. Always willing to go above and beyond, he eagerly lent a hand and would gladly give the shirt off his back to help someone.
David was an exceptional and proud grandfather to DJ, Cody, Michael, and Connor. Papa dedicated countless hours to teaching, laughing, and showering them with affection. He made every moment special, leaving a lasting impression on their lives.
David enjoyed watching birds and squirrels from his porch, fishing, hunting, ice cream, casinos, country music, and road trips, which always included a supply of red and black licorice. He had a reputation for hosting delicious fish fries and memorable hog roast gatherings.
Following the loss of his beloved wife, David discovered love, solace, and companionship in Janice. Her presence and that of her family reignited the joy in his life.
David’s love, boundless kindness, witty sense of humor, and generous heart will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Those of us left here on Earth without him include Constance Finn and her husband, Brian; David Sherwood and his wife, Fran; Brenda Sherwood; his brother, Ron, and sister-in-law, Glenda Sherwood; his grandchildren: David Joel, Cody, Michael, and Connor; his great-grandchildren: Eastyn, Sawyer, Beckett, and Grayson, along with various other family members and friends he loved and adored.
A celebration of life will be held starting at 10:30 am Saturday, March 8, 2025 at St Mary’s Church, 7105 Cass Ave, Denton, NE.
