Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

 Obituary Post Date:

Carol Budka, 86, of Lincoln, NE, October 13, 1937-October 17, 2023

Carol (Leidy) Budka was born October 13, 1937 in O’Neill, Nebraska to Ralph Newell and Elva Ann Leidy. She has a younger brother Jerry and loads of aunts, uncles and 25 cousins.

Carol spent much of her childhood living above her father’s hatchery where she enjoyed working at the cash register and helping her mother run the store, if not the chickens. She also enjoyed going to her maternal grandparent’s farm north of Emmet, Nebraska.

Carol attended public schools in O’Neill and after her father’s retirement, Bentonville, Arkansas. She attended nursing school at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri and later worked at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, McKennen, Sioux Falls and then 31 years at Bryan Memorial, Lincoln.

She was noted for how much she loved people and animals. She loved to make and send greeting cards for any occasion. She enjoyed the family dogs and cat; birds and flower gardening.

She married James R. Budka on April 29, 1961 in Omaha at Benson Presbyterian Church. They had twin sons, Mark and David born September 22, 1962.

Carol and Jim lived nearly all their married life in Lincoln. Carol was proceeded in death by her and an incredible number of aunts and uncles. She leaves in pleasant Autumn wonder, her husband of 62 years, her two sons, a daughter-in-law, her brother Jerry, a gaggle of cousins, other friends and family more numerous than the Autumn leaves.

The greatest gift she leaves behind is the gift of love. She gave it at home, church and in everything she did. That is Christ’s greatest gift to us all. The family’s prayer, in Mom’s memory, is that you receive it! We love you Mom
