Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

 Obituary Post Date:

Allan Aaron Quick, 82, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on October 8, 2024.

He was born on December 15, 1941, in Denver, CO to Aaron M. and Genevieve C. (Connor) Quick.

Allan graduated from high school in 1959 from Curtis, NE.  He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his master’s in architecture from the University of Minnesota.  He started his career in architecture at Clark & Enersen, Lincoln.  Later he established his firm, Design Group.  Allan was well respected for his award-winning residential and commercial designs.

He was a lifelong teacher and student of art and design. He taught graduate-level architecture at UNL where his students sought his real-world expertise. While he most enjoyed designing “on the drawing board” using pen and paper, he learned computer-assisted design (CAD) in his later years and continued practicing his craft.

Known by many as “AQ,” Allan enjoyed socializing with friends in his downtown neighborhood, riding his bicycle, cooking (soups and salads were his specialties,) gardening, Cornhusker Football and Volleyball, and walking his Chow Chows through the UNL campus.

Allan is survived by his children Kim Baker (Scott), Bainbridge Island, WA, Weston Quick, San Diego, CA, Kelley Peterson (Lee), Lincoln, NE,  grandchildren Brady Baker, Mason Baker (Justeen), Foster Peterson (Zoe), Finley Johnson (Jaxson), Skyler Peterson, and sister Elinor Fletcher, North Platte, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron, and Genevieve.

Private burial will be held at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, NE.

Sympathy to all of Al’s family. Became friends with Al when we both worked at Fulton and Cramer, Consulting Engineers; spent an evening and early morning at Al and Arylis’s home or ours watching our first moon landing. Although as we grew older and apart, I always thought of Al as a friend.

To Kim, Kelley and Weston, Your mom and dad really helped me transition from small town, western Nebraska, to the “big town” UNL in 1969. Also your grandparents. I even have a son named Aaron which I see was Alan’s middle name. Alan’s design was intriguing to me and he allowed me to visit on several occasions in his studio. Our heart-felt sympathies to you.

A great man, his love and concern for others was genuine. The kind of person that you wish there were more of. He could humble you with practical advice and create you a path for successful outcome. An old soul perhaps still ahead of his time. Designed the Health Mall for someday in the future.

    I miss you.
