Shakuntala Evangeline David, 90, of Lincoln, January 27, 1931-October 18, 2021

Shakuntala Evangeline (Mann) David, 90, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on October 18, 2021, surrounded by family at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. She was born on January 27, 1931 in Delhi, India to Rev. Isaac and Dolly (Cornelius) Mann.

She attained a Baccalaureate Degree in Education from Isabella Thoburn College, in Lucknow, India and a Masters of Sciences Degree in Library Sciences from Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, India.  She was fluent in English, Hindi, Urdu, and other languages spoken on the Indian sub-continent.  She also read Sanskrit and Arabic.  Shakuntala married Rev. John C. David on December 23, 1959, in Delhi.  Shakuntala joined her husband, John, accompanied by their four young children, to the United States in January of 1970 to continue their Ministry

She raised five children while serving churches with her husband in Indiana, Illinois, and Nebraska.  Shakuntala and John completed their calling as Christian ministers in Micronesia for 3 years. They bravely faced obstacles and celebrations with their fierce faith. They were a living example of the love of God.

Shakuntala is survived by countless friends made by her playful wit and deep caring for the well-being of those around her; her children, Mona (Frank) Starman, of Williamsburg, VA, Asnath “Ozzie” (Paul) Downes, Sherry (John) Weber, all of Lincoln, NE, John (Heather) David of Woodbridge, VA, James David, and Seema David, both of Lincoln, NE; 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews around the world.  Preceded in death by her husband, John, in February 2020, her parents, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers.

A Memorial Celebration of her life dedicated to the Ministry of God will be held 1:00pm Friday, October 22, 2021 at Northeast United Church of Christ, 6200 Adams St., Lincoln, NE.

The Church requests that everyone attending the Memorial Celebration please wear a face mask.
