Norman Eugene Williams, 93, of Lincoln, NE, March 5, 1929-September 13, 2022

Norman “Norm” Eugene Williams was born March 5, 1929. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on September 13, 2022 at the age of 93.

Norm was the son of Henry and Theresa (Schuurmans) Williams. He was born and raised on the family farmstead outside of Tyndall, SD.

After graduating from High school he attended Southern State Teacher’s College is Springfield, SD. He continued his education receiving his Graduate degree at South Dakota State in Brooking, SD and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE.

He proudly served his county in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He served from February 1951 to February 1955.

On November 11, 1965, he married Sharon A. Fish. At that time he was working for the University of Nebraska in the Agronomy Department. In 1967, they moved to York, NE where he worked at Pioneer Hi-Bred International as the Research Station Manager in the Corn Breeding Department.

Norm and Sharon had three children, Mark, Beth, and Jenny. On September 1, 1981, Sharon passed away. Then on June 4, 1983, Norm married Eva (Dodge) Barnes.

Norm continued to work at Pioneer for 31 years. During that time he developed several of Pioneers highest yielding breeds of corn. To which he has several patents in his name. After he retired in 1997, Norm and Eva moved to Lincoln where he continued to work part time for Cargill from 1998-2001 as a Technical Advisor and Research Assistant. Also after working at Cargill as a Technical Advisor and Research Assistant he worked at J.C. Robinson as a Technical Advisor and Research Assistant from 2001-2005 when he finally actually retired.

In September 2021, he received his 65-year pin from the Masonic Lodge in York. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and Methodist Church in York and Lincoln.

Norm enjoyed spending time with his family and putting models of Navy ships together. His biggest passion was taking care of his lawn. He had the best lawn in the neighborhood.

Norm was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Sharon.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Eva, and her two children, Randy (Kathy) Barnes, of York, NE and Garry (Cindy) Barnes, of Vernon, CT; his children, Mark (Penny) Williams, of Fate, TX, Beth Folts, of York, NE, and Jennifer (Daniel) Scheil, of Marquette, NE; grandchildren, Eric (Karen) Barnes, of O’Neil, NE, Stephen (Paige) Barnes, of Haigler, NE, Makenna Barnes, of CT, Shelby Barnes, of CT, Amber Williams, of York, NE, Cody (Angie) Williams, of Waverly, NE, Baylee Flores, of CA, Morgan Williams, of TX, Brandon Williams, of TX, Whitney Folts, of York, NE, Hunter Folts, of York, Ne, and Zachary Scheil, of Central City, Ne; as well as great grandchildren, Elsie Barnes, Claire Widga, and Nova Williams.

Norm had a kind soul and was wise beyond his years. He loved his family with his whole heart and brought so much joy to everyone he met.

Visitation 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2022 at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln, NE.

Funeral Service 10:00 am Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 8550 Pioneers Blvd, Lincoln, NE.

Burial at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Omaha National Cemetery.
