Libor Francis Fráňa, 85, of Lincoln, NE, January 29, 1937-August 10, 2022
Libor Francis Fráňa died in his home in Lincoln, Nebraska, at age 85 at 2:45am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.
He was born January 29, 1937, and baptized February 2, 1937, in Mělčany, which is in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic, a place of about 500 people south of Brno. Libor’s mother was Marie Fráňová and his father was Vincenc Fráňa.
In 1969, Libor, then 32, found a way to escape communism, making his way to Austria and eventually New York City. In time, he established a successful career in electrical engineering, working in California, Texas and abroad. The majority of his career was spent designing off shore platforms.
On June 23, 1974, Libor married Alicia Sanchez in Las Vegas, Nevada and they have a daughter, Vanessa.
Libor enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his granddaughters and enjoyed connecting with family back home in the Czech Republic. Today, the majority of his family lives in Mělčany, outside of Brno.
Libor was a strong man with a humble heart, someone who persevered as an American immigrant and held great love for the United States of America and the opportunities it provided.
Libor had two brothers, Jaroslav and Zdeněk. Jaroslav died in 2017. Zdeněk, with his son and grandson, made the trip to the United States to be with family and attend Libor's funeral. Jaroslav and his wife Bohumila have three children: son, Jaroslav Fráňa, daughter, Alena Ryšavá, and son, Radek Fráňa. Zdeněk and his wife Jitka have two children: daughter, Hana Kašparovská and son, Zdeněk Fráňa.
Libor is survived by Alicia Fráňa, his wife of 48 years; daughter, Vanessa Seifert and her husband, Brandon; granddaughters, Victoria and Lydia Seifert; and grandson, Pavel Fráňa, Jr, son of Libor's son Pavel, who died in 2009. Libor is also survived by his brother Zdeněk.
Libor Fráňa's funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at 10:30am, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitation preceding at 9:30am.
