James Robert Willis, 73, passed away Friday, November 4th surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born March 7, 1943 in Central City, NE to Claude and Gladys (Culbertson) Willis. He graduated from Central City High School in 1961. In 1963 Jim moved to Lincoln with his then wife Jacqulyn Herman. He worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co for 35 years. Jim received numerous awards on behalf of his work with Labor Unions and the Democratic Party. He was President of the Rubber Workers Union Local 286 and went on to become the president of the Lincoln Central Labor Union until he retired. He received the Albert W. Bauer award for achievement on behalf of organized labor and The Patriots Award from the Lancaster County Democratic Party. In 2003 he was inducted into the Nebraska State AFL-CIO Labor Leaders Hall of Fame. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, photography, and being with his family. He was a great father and friend.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include his only daughter, Jennifer Blankenship and husband Johnny, four nieces, and one nephew.


Celebration of Life will be December 10th @ 11:00 am at the Lincoln Labor Temple, 4625 Y st, Lincoln NE. A lite lunch will be provided.
