Sondra Sue McCoy, 54, of Lincoln, NE passed away on October 11, 2026 at her home peacefully in her husband’s arms. She was born May 4, 1972 in Lincoln, NE to David and Lois (Swetland) Rafferty.
Family members include husband, Bryan McCoy of 35 years of sweet beautiful marriage. BreAnn McCoy of Lincoln, Brittany (Trent) McCoy/Hill of Lincoln and Brooke (Sam) Rutherford of Lincoln. Sweet Sondra had two biological grandkids that she moved mountains for, Waylon David Masonbrink and Luke Elijah Rutherford. Sweet ‘nana’ also had many bonus and adopted by love grandkids; Abby Masonbrink, Dayton Graves and Deacon Hill. Being a mother and a nana was Sondra’s greatest joys and accomplishments. There was no greater love than the love Nana poured into each of these precious children. Nana never missed a sporting event or a phone call to let each child know how much they are loved and how proud of them she was and will forever be. Sondra absolutely adored animals. There was not a single animal she wouldn’t rescue back to health.
Sondra’s personality was one you would see when you are wanting to watch a ‘feel good comedy show.’ Her laugh was contagious, her smile was perfect and her humor was unmatched. Sondra was the life of the party. If Sondra was in the room you knew it and you felt the warmth and heard her loud voice cracking a joke. Sondra battled lots of mental and physical disabilities and disadvantages but she never let any of that stop her from seeing who she loved. The day of her death she was cheering on the Huskers with her best buddy Waylon David and beautiful Daughter Brooke. If you called Sondra she would answer with so much love and honor. She was ready to serve every one she loved and those she hardly knew all equally. Sondra was stubborn as they come. We are so grateful that Sondra knew Jesus and we will have forever peace that she is with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. We will miss you every single day here on earth and can not wait to reunite with you in Heaven when God calls us home also. We hope there’s so much soda pop, steak and potatoes in Heaven and that God has given you a perfect job taking care of His animals as you did so perfectly here.
Sondra was welcomed in to Heaven and preceded in death by her parents, David and Lois (Swetland) Rafferty, Grandparents, Harry and Ruth (Coy) Swetland, Grandparents, Kenneth and Esther (Parish) Rafferty, Aunt Rita Canby, Uncle Donald Swetland, Cousins Ricky and Robert Canby.
Sondra’s celebration of life will be at 3pm, Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 at Christ Place Church Midtown location, 5555 Roose St, Lincoln, NE 68506 with Pastors Dale Hill and Rich Justus officiating with fellowship to follow after the service.
Everyone is encouraged to wear bright colors or husker shirts. Sondra’s personality was wild, warm and vibrant.

We’re so blessed to have known you, Sondra. Happy memories!
Sondra, I don’t even know how to begin saying goodbye to you. You were so much more than my best friend. You were my person, my other half, and such a huge part of my little family.
You loved my girls like they were your own and you were always there for us. Through the good days, the hard days, and all the crazy shenanigans we somehow always found ourselves in. There was never a dull moment with you and I wouldn’t trade a single one of those memories for anything.
I keep wishing we had more time. More laughs, more conversations, more memories, and just one more day together.
You had such a special place in our lives and I don’t think you’ll ever truly know how much you mean to us. Life is so different without you here and my heart hurts knowing I can’t just pick up the phone and call you anymore.
Thank you for loving me and my girls, for being our family, and for being one of the greatest blessings in our lives.
I love you so much. I hope you knew that. You will forever be a part of us.❤️

Sondra you were the life of the party even if there was a party going on! If you were there the party that wasn’t scheduled was about to start!
