Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day.  Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear.

 Obituary Post Date:

September 2, 1969, to April 25, 2026

Lincoln resident, Brian D. Kincaid, 56, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026.

A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, May 16th, 10:30 A.M. with a light lunch to follow at Evangelical Free Church, Hastings with Steve James officiating. There will be no visitation or viewing. Memorials can be given to the family for further designation.

Brian was born in Omaha, NE to Richard and Nella (Burns) Kincaid. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1988. Devoted to his country, he spent a short time in Army training with hopes of serving longer. Throughout his life, Brian worked a variety of jobs, most recently working as a copier repair technician until a debilitating car accident in 2009. Of everything he accomplished, his greatest honor was serving as a volunteer firefighter with the Hastings, Nebraska Fire Department. Though he was a man who didn’t show a lot of emotion, he was moved when talking about his love for helping others in that role.

Brian loved his family and his Scottish heritage, so much so that he proudly wore a Kincaid Crest tattoo. He was the family historian; a man of sharp wit and humor; a colorful storyteller; and a creator of many unique (and surprisingly good) culinary inventions—something he loved doing with his brother-in-law, Jeff. He also loved his German Shepards, his Huskers, was a protective big brother, and a remarkably intelligent man who could speak knowledgeably on countless topics.

Following his accident, life became incredibly difficult with additional medical challenges, yet he navigated it with a resilience few could match. He found ways to continue living independently, as he wished, and faced each day with determination. He will be greatly missed!

Brian was preceded in death by his father, Richard ‘Dick’ D. Kincaid.

Survivors include his mother, Nella Kincaid; sister, Carmen Schwab, and her husband Jeff Schwab; nephews, Jordan Schwab and his wife Kelsey (child Leighton), Christian Schwab, and his wife, Whitney (children Nora, Judah, and Shiloh); former wife, Teresa Kincaid and extended family.

Brian served honorably as a Hastings City, Paid on Call, Volunteer Fire Fighter in the mid-1990’s. God Bless Brian. May he be in peace.
