Brenda Kay Edmonds, passed away the morning of, April 9, 2026, in Lincoln, NE. Brenda spent her last days surrounded by family and found peace, thanks to the devoted hospice staff. Born November 13, 1950, in Brighton, CO, to James (Bill) W Young and Peggy L Pulliam. Brenda married George G Edmonds in Sidney, NE, and had one daughter, Kacey T Petit (Edmonds). She was also preceded in death by a child lost before birth.

Brenda spent her entire working life in different nursing homes, first as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then earning her Social Work degree, and retiring as an Occupational Therapist Assistant at Grant Nursing Home in Grant, NE. Brenda cherished her friends and family above all else and enjoyed many years of babysitting and loving on all the children she cared for after her retirement from the health care profession.

Brenda’s faith was a major part of her life, and her church family was an important part of her life. She dedicated her years to her Seventh Day Adventist church in Ogallala, NE, first in the children’s ministry and later in leading adult Bible studies. Brenda’s passion for Christ and her desire to share her beliefs never left anyone in doubt about her love for Jesus. She showed the mercy and grace of God to everyone she met and spread His word to all who would listen. She was also an avid animal lover, especially horses and dogs. She was known for rescuing and taking in strays, both two- and four-legged.

Brenda was preceded in death by her father, mother, and an infant older sister. She leaves behind her husband, George, brother, Greg Young, daughter, Kacey Petit and husband, Brett, nephew, Tregg Young and wife, Erin, niece, Marklyn McGinis and husband, Dan, nephew, Michael Young and wife, Megan, nephew, Tyler Young and wife, Josie. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Gabby Petit, Micah Petit, Avery Petit, and wife, Tiffani, Evan Petit and wife, Sohee, and three wonderful great children, many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended families who were adopted by her and her family.

    I still remember how warmly Brenda welcomed me the very first time we met—her kindness and love left a lasting impression on me.

    I’m grateful to have known her, even for a short time.
    She will be deeply missed, but I find comfort knowing she is now at peace.
