Violet M. Cook, 81, Lincoln, died Tuesday (12/26/17). She was born January, 19, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY to Edwin & Alice (Anderson) Zaugg.
Beulah Ullstrom of Lincoln, Ne (born 5-4-1933) passed away 11-28-2017 at the Ambassador in Lincoln Nebraska.
Dennis Carl Harding, 69, of Eagle, died November 22, 2017. Born October 4, 1948, in Carrington, North Dakota, the son of Carl and Lucille Harding. He married Tali Harding on March 24, 1995.
Survivors: wife, Tali Harding; children, Shawn Harding, Nichole (Tye) Pourier, Maryah Harding; siblings, Connie (Jim) Wehler, Becky (Rick) Richter, Rick (Denise) Harding; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Barbara Jean Payne, 75, of Chicago, passed away November 13, 2017. Born July 2, 1942 in Chicago, IL to Willie and Ollie Mae Walls. Homemaker/Candy factory worker. Barbara Jean moved to Lincoln two months ago from Chicago. She enjoyed going to the casinos, the 007 Tavern, and spending time with her best friend Mae Armstead. She was also a member of the Thunderbird Motorcycle Club.
Juan Castillo, 20, of Lincoln, passed away November 7, 2017 in Omaha, NE. He was born May 16, 1997 in Omaha.
Janice D. Strange passed away at the age of 84, October 24, 2017 at High Plains Alzheimer’s Memory Care Center in Lincoln. She was born in St. Francis, Kansas, to Hubert L. and Eunice M. (Shearer) Harrison in 1933. Janice graduated from Holdrege High School where she was a cheerleader and received a vocal scholarship to the University of Nebraska. While at UNL, she was Honorary Commandant, Editor of the Daily Nebraskan, and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She worked as a marketing spokesperson and served as a children's show hostess for KOLN-KGIN TV in 1961-62. She was a former Chair of the Nebraska March of Dimes, and a member of P.E.O. Chapter FG.
After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a degree in English, she married Thomas P. Beal of Omaha. They had 5 children. She returned to the University of Nebraska and received her Master’s Degree in Education and began teaching at Robin Mickle Junior High School. She completed her coursework requirements towards her PHD., and taught at Lincoln Northeast High School until she retired.
Janice performed in several Gilbert and Sullivan musicals at the Lincoln Community Playhouse and sang in various choirs throughout the city.
She married David A. Strange, a native of Hays, Kansas, in 1975. They built their dream home in Estes Park, Colorado, and moved there in 2009. They spent time traveling and exploring the Colorado Rockies.
Ardyce B. Welch, 92, of Lincoln, passed away September 26, 2017. Born August 3, 1925 in Hastings, NE to John Adam and Anna Marie Louise (Kemper) Batt. Ardyce was a microbiologist for 42 years retiring in 1989 from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Ardyce was a faithful member of St. David’s Episcopal Church for the past decade, a member of the American Society for Biology, Tissue Culture Association, Sigma Xi, and Sigma Delta Episilon (graduate women in science). She is survived by her niece, nephew and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, John Carroll Welch.
Terry Allen Valenta, 53, of Ashland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2017. He was born on December 23, 1963 to Fred and Ruby Valenta. He graduated from Southeast High school in 1982, and joined the Air National Guard after graduation and served our country for 26 years. In 1997 he was employed by Voss Lighting where he had just celebrated his 20th year with the company. He also often worked alongside his dad cooking at Fred and Ruby’s at Parkway Lanes. Terry married Carissa Dueck on May 2, 1998 in Lincoln. They moved to Grand Rapids, MI shortly after where they lived and served together for 10 years before moving to Ashland, NE. Terry and Carissa were blessed with four children: Ainsley, Deacon, Given and Sullivan. Terry enjoyed watching cooking shows, grocery shopping, listening to sermons and hymns whenever he could. He especially loved spending time with his family and he was an amazing caregiver to Carissa and the kids. One of his favorite hymn was One Day.
Jessie Jeannette Nickeson, 99, died September 24, 2017 at her home in Savannah Pines in Lincoln. Born on September 5, 1918 in Leshara, NE to Jesse Alfred Sutton and Marjorie Elizabeth Esty, a direct descendant of Mary Towne Esty of Salem, Massachusetts.
Rolland “Rollie” Dale TerMaat, 68, of Lincoln, passed away September 19, 2017. Born May 6, 1949 in Lincoln, NE. Preceded in death by parents Walter and Henrietta (Buis) TerMaat. Survived by brother Duane (Betty) TerMaat, children Jennifer (Randy) McLain, Julia (O’Dhaniel Mullette-Gillman) TerMaat, and Joel (Amelita) TerMaat, and five grandchildren.
